Lairig Ghru outing

Walking the Lairig Ghru is something rather special, also rather challenging – but we do like a challenge!

At a distance of approx. 32km, and reaching a height of 835m, each member of the group knew this was not going to be a wee ‘doddle’, and that it would also become mind over matter at times!

The days before, heavy rain hit the areas, and so the ground was wet, with a stream running down the paths most of the way, as well as some slippery footing at times. However, we were very lucky to have only drizzle and rain showers pass over at times, sun even coming out at times, and the clouds that hugged half way down the mountains finally lifting to let us enjoy the beauty of mountains including Braeriach, as well as look over to Aviemore.

From the outset, there was a feeling of energy, open hearts and minds, and quickly a team bond was established. Some may have started as strangers, but that’s certainly not the case by the end of the day! A special day in many ways, with memories that will last a lifetime.

Tootsies and legs were tired, eyes were heavy, though my surprise of the large chocolate bar fairly picked you all up in the minibus as we headed back to our cars near Braemar!

A huge well done to Sandie, Alison, Diana, Neil and Iain for what was a brilliant achievement for each and every one of you. Also, a big thank you to Graham at our friends at Hillgoers, who provided additional guiding support on what was a walk of just over 10 hours.

Well done!!
